The Institute originated from the Singapore Institute of Engineering Technicians founded in 1980 to cater for the interests of Polytechnic and VITB (now ITE) engineering graduates. Its name was changed to the Singapore Institute of Engineering Technologists in 1986.
SIET is governed by an elected Executive Council and supported by four working committees: Membership & Qualifications; Education & Training; Publications ; Social Functions and the SIET – Accreditation Board.
